Fashion Inspiration: A Bit of Black

Karlie Kloss by Hedi Slimane for Vogue Japan, February 2012

When you look for fashion inspiration online or in magazines, do you gravitate towards bold colors? Pastels? Metallics? Animal prints?

I find inspiration in all of the above… but sometimes black, pure and simple, is all I need. These shots are a few of my current faves:

Emily DiDonato by Alexander Neumann for Vogue Mexico, January 2012

Magdalena Frackowiak by Ben Hassett for Vogue Germany, January 2012

Darya by Wee Khim for Style Singapore, January 2012

Emily DiDonato by Alexander Neumann for Vogue Mexico, January 2012

Rebecca Iannacone by Aram Bedrossian for Cosmopolitan Armenia, December 2011

Eva Herzigova by David Roemer for Marie Claire Spain, January 2012

Daphne Guinness by Alan Gelati for Harper’s Bazaar Russia, December 2011

Charlize Theron by Mario Sorrenti for W Magazine, February 2012

Karlie Kloss by Hedi Slimane for Vogue Japan, February 2012

It’s no secret I love black and white photography, but I love the clothing in these images as well… especially the jumpsuit Emily DiDonato is wearing!

Where have you been finding your fashion inspiration lately?

I love all colors. It just depends on the style , some colors fit some styles and some don’t , this is just my opinion . But black is always classic.

Love that jumpsuit, and love all your inspiration. It’s funny to me that when I look through magazines I seem to be pretty consistently drawn to neutrals (Bottega Veneta’s A/W campaign, for example, was one I kept coming back to) and yet, I never really wear neutrals. Almost always black and gray. I think I’m one of those people whose inspirations don’t actually translate to my style, I don’t know why. Some people will point out things to me and say, “OH that’s so you!” and I think, It is? Really?. I’ve thought about it a lot lately and it makes me want to make something of a project of figuring out exactly what I look like to the rest of the world versus the style that’s in my mind. If that makes any sense.

Uhm, this comment got way off the original topic, didn’t it? Bit awkward. I’ll just go now… (:

I always tend to gravitate towards color but like you, I can appreciate a wonderful black outfit. That jumpsuit is Fierce!!! That detailing is ah-mazing!

my inspiration varies from time to time…sometimes it might be black and white, sometimes color! I confess that my favorite past-time is to flip through magazines cutting out images that I find interesting…sometimes they end up in “moodboards” (supposedly to “help” me design something, anything!) but most of them lay in a folder waiting patiently to be used one day…

Love these images. Am particularly inspired by color as of late. That and the fact that spring will soon be on the way 🙂
