It’s Spring fever, baby! A FTF Blog Event, 5/6/2011

This month’s Full Time Fabulous blog event focuses on a lovely little thing you may all be familiar with… spring!

But before we begin… can we just talk about our hostess for this event, Kristy Eléna?  You must – absolutely m.u.s.t. check out her blog event post.  Not because I said so, but because she is rocking some to die for Foley + Corinna pieces like it is nobody’s business.  Don’t believe me?  Here is a little teaser for you:

Gorg, no?  Nothing says “spring is here” like light, airy dresses that make you look like a goddess!  Make sure you check it out by clicking on the image when you have a moment.

Now, back to spring.

For me, the spring is a time of renewal and positive energy.  The air is full of life and endless possibilities.   All around us things are coming alive, blooming with colors and textures that can only be found in nature.  Kind of like these:

The fresh spring air heightens our senses and makes us more aware of everything around us.  Before we know it, Spring fever sets in and makes us yearn for…

Well.

Lots of things.   Lots of fun, sexy, desirable things.

Very sexy.  Very desirable.

However, this is a fashion blog, so the only Spring fever I’ll be talking about will be fashion-related.

I’ve always believed GUCCI’s 2004 Spring/Summer Ad Campaign, shot by Mario Testino, perfectly captured the essence of Spring.

These designs, by (who else?) genius Tom Ford, embody the sensuality and elegance that I equate with Spring.  Undeniably feminine and simply – in a word – stunning.

These designs may date back 7 years, but truthfully, they are just as relevant today.  The colors are perfect in their boldness.  The textures and intricate attention to detail?  True Ford masterpieces.

Do you SEE that bracelet/cuff/work of art on her arm?  What about the serpent detailing on the purses? Amazing.

Now, let’s talk about those heels.

These corset heels haunt me in my sleep.  I am not kidding.

They are my holy grail of heels.  I stalk ebay like there is no tomorrow, looking for these shoes.  One day, all the stars will align, and I WILL own a pair.  Preferably in black or nude.  Maybe both.

One day.  Then, my Spring will be perfect.

Intricate details, bold colors, eye-catching textures, silky and airy fabrics, shimmering serpents … and innate sensuality… this collection had it all.

If the essence of Spring could be captured in fashion, this would be it, in my opinion.

What about you?  Are there any collections that stand out to you in this way?

What defines the Spring for you? Let me know!

Spring is all about transition for me. Funny, because I didn’t grow up with different seasons. These past few years have been really nice weather in the Netherlands, so shorts/maxi’s are a standard in my Spring closet.

Funny that you should mention seasons. I grew up with the full four seasons in Cleveland and Spring used to be my favorite. Now it seems like we barely have a Spring at all – we went straight from cold weather to 80 degree days! Still though, even in summer shorts and maxis work!

HAHAHA. I died laughing when reading “Very sexy. Very desirable.” You crack me up!

What a gorgeous collection… it looks brand-new! So ahead of its time.

Well, this post could have taken a whole different turn had we discussed that OTHER type of Spring Fever, no? 😉

That’s the thing about the collections GUCCI came out with under Tom Ford – most are completely relevant today! That’s the true sign of a fashion genius.

It’s always so much fun to look back at old collections and see how relevant they can still be. In fact, Gucci’s line this season uses a lot of the same colors – though we both know it can never top Tom Ford! Sorry I’ve been a little MIA lately and that it took me so long to get over to your FTF post. I’ve been swamped and feel so out of the loop. Here’s to a spring of getting back on track!

I think that looking at old collections really helps define which styles are truly timeless. There are timeless classics, yes, but the pieces above have also proven to be timeless and relevant in a way that might be slightly unexpected. I get a huge kick out of the fact that a lot of people didn’t realize this wasn’t a CURRENT GUCCI campaign.

No worries on being MIA – I am in the same boat. Spring is will be our time of renewal!!

i adore this post!! i LOVE that you showed us an editorial that is 7 years old yet still COMPLETELY relevant today. this is the perfect example of timeless fashion & design. you can still be very now, very modern, very in the moment without looking “trendy” under the bad connotation.

thank you so much for the super sweet shout out!! i really appreciate it love. =)

Spring is a a start of a cycle, a return to old things, but worn in a new way. for me the most predictable and freshest trends come from the Spring season. I love the thrill of newly blossomed bulbs, the colors the taut push of the stems from the earth, and fashionwise that translates into risky bold sartorial choices.

Love your version of spring. I never thought about it but it would be similar. Lots of colors, walk in the park, and soaking the sunshine! 🙂

After looking at this post, you are making me pay attention to Gucci a whole lot more! But maybe after I stop drooling over that cuff bracelet…OMG it’s gorgeous!

Spring to me is being bold whether in fashion, beauty, or in life. It’s about being bold and adventurous and the season’s fashion is definitely following that trend!

I love that you included ads from 7 years ago. Had you not mentioned it I would’ve thought they were recent, no joke. They’re absolutely gorgeous and I totally blame you for the birth of what might become an obsession…Corset heels? OH MY.

Beautiful post! I am having way too much fun reading and drooling over all the posts for this event!

Omigosh…I looooove your post!!! It is so fun! So spring…lol. I love this bit:

“Lots of things. Lots of fun, sexy, desirable things.

    Very sexy. Very desirable.

However, this is a fashion blog, so the only Spring fever I’ll be talking about will be fashion-related.”

Hahahaha, I was like, oh where is B taking us!?! But right back to fashion…so good the Gucci campaign I love love the cuff situation. I could hang that image up in my apartment as art, for real. And you are 100% right about the Kristy Elena’s post…her outfit is a must see, the pictures are out of this world. Totally amazing.

Amazing, absolutely amazing. I love the idea of focusing on a specific collection; fashion really does have a way of embodying the seasons, especially this fashion and this season. I’m completely obsessed with that serpent cuff, I can’t even begin to tell you. Leave it to Tom Ford, that’s all I can say. Gorgeous post, B!

ah you are a Tom Ford groupie indeed!!!never imagined to link Spring with Tom…never ever!!
I cannot recall collections of the past that excited me (well, I remember some Japanese inspired dresses from Gucci but I’m to lazy right now to open the Tom Ford book to look up the year)!!!
But this year I fell in love with Mary Katrantzou’s creations…one day I’d like to own one!!
oh by the way…I loved the flowers collage…it’s perfect for Tumblr 🙂
