For Japan With Love – Please Join Me

This post is dedicated to the people of Japan – those who have lost their lives, and those who remain.

“There is a sacredness in tears.

They are not the mark of weakness, but of power.

They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues.

They are messengers of overwhelming grief…

and unspeakable love.”

– Washington Irving

I think everyone’s heart is in the right place with this. I’d like to ask bloggers who are not posting however, (and blog readers!) to use their time contacting Representatives and the Japanese government in order to urge the Japanese government to permit food and supplies airdrops to Northeast Japan where people are now starving, a week after the earthquake. See a video interview with a Japan scholar on my site: http://mlleparadis.blogspot.com that explains why.

    Thanks if you can help!

I’m afraid i’m with Elle on this one. I personally don’t see how a day of silence will help the people of Japan. I’m currently working on my own way of raising money for the Japan appeal instead.

Is the day of silence intended to be a no-blog day?

My children’s school is doing a fundraiser for Japan tomorrow and I’ll be donating for sure!

To see what I had to say on Japan, please read my latest post (linked through comment luv plugin. Here I’ll say this- I am totally in shock with what’s happened, and it’s truly devastating and upsetting, and deserves all the attention as we help them in anyway we can(and other places struck by recent disaster). That said, I believe time, donations, first hand help, encouraging others to get involved and sending supplies does much more than a day of silence ever could. So while I’d love to support what seems like a great cause at first, I question how much awareness it’d really bring. That said, I especially encourage donations to the Red Cross because I know first hand all the money is going to Japan and helping people in need. (That said I’m sure much of the money from other organizations is getting there too, i’m just not positive on that because I haven’t worked with them (I get red cross emails as a volunteer.) ). Thank you B for your support of Japan though.
