Looking Back: 2010 Carnival Legend Cruise

This week is my Cruise Anniversary.

Last year, from March 7 – 14th, I spent 7 beautiful sun-filled days aboard the Carnival Legend. It was my first cruise vacation, and I went into it not quite knowing what to expect. Part of me was worried that cruises were still only for “old people” and there would be nothing to do aboard other than play shuffleboard. Another part of me was worried that it would be party-central, and I would remember none of it when it was over. Yet another part of me wondered if I would fall overboard while leaning over our balcony, never to be heard from again.

It was a special trip to me for a multitude of reasons, some of which are no longer quite so special. But the cruise itself remains one of the best experiences of my life. The places we visited were absolutely breathtaking in their beauty and we could not have asked for better weather!

I was looking at some photos earlier and decided that I wanted to share some images from the cruise with you (who knows, you might actually catch a glimpse of me in one or two!). This is actually going to be split up into 2 posts because of the quantity of pictures (you might want to skip tomorrow if you aren’t interested in this type of thing). This photography should give you some insight into the type of person I am. These are the images that stayed with me… the sites that took my breathe away. I guess I am pretty easy to please travel 2 Looking Back: 2010 Carnival Legend Cruise

Our trip began in Tampa, Florida. Cruise ships that leave from Tampa have to clear the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, and let’s just say its pretty amazing to watch that happen!

This is a shot of the bridge after we had safely cleared it.

I won’t bore you with photos of the ship itself (I think they all pretty much look alike) but the Legend was nice. It’s a nice size ship – not huge, but not small. We spent most of that first evening exploring, playing in the casino a bit, and just drinking in the views. Let me just tell you – sunsets as seen from a cruise ship deck are INCREDIBLE.

The first full day on the ship is a “sea day”. Most of this was, again, spent exploring.

There I am on the ship! (SHHHH!)

I became a bit obsessed with the wake of the ship... it's mesmerizing.

These little guys were fun. Each night you’d come back from dinner and find a new towel animal in your room. I don’t have a photo of the elephant from the first night, but this was the rabbit. Cute, right?

When we woke up at sunrise on Day 2 we were in Grand Cayman!

Time to wake up - Grand Cayman in the distance!

This is SUCH a beautiful island and the locals are extremely friendly.   We chose to spend our time in Cayman visiting Stingray City and doing some snorkeling.

Could that water be any more beautiful?

Getting back to our ship after the fun is over

Have I mentioned how much I LOVED the views of the Caribbean Sea from the ship? Just spectacular.

Upon leaving Grand Cayman, we headed straight to Cozumel, Mexico. Our personal destination? Nachi Cocum Beach Club. I HIGHLY recommend Nachi Cocum if you are ever heading to Cozumel. For $49 per person, you not only get full access to the resort for the day – you get an OPEN BAR and a 4-course lunch. Did I mention an open bar?

And it looks like this:

I would say it is heaven on earth, except that came a few days later in the trip. All too soon we were heading back to the Legend. This Princess cruise ship was our neighbor during our stay in Cozumel:

Meanwhile, back in the room this guy showed up to greet us.  I am not sure what he was.  Ideas?

…and off we went to our next destination!

Beautiful pictures and wow that water is so clear. I am going on my first cruise next week for seven days on the Oasis of the sea ship.

These photos are seriously beautiful, and I love how you’ve edited them to. I’ve never been particularly fond of the idea of taking a cruise but I may just be coming around. The scenery is beyond anything I’ve seen in real life… and just imagining that setting out onto open water & spending the days exploring gives me a new kind of thrill. :>

You know it’s funny you say that. I NEVER imagined I would take a cruise, but had a friend that went a couple years ago and I couldn’t stop ooh-ing and ahh-ing over her photos. When I started looking at vacation option last year a cruise just seemed to make the most sense. Now that I’ve been one one i can see why people say they are addictive. I could have spent 7 days on our balcony staring at the sea and been perfectly content! It’s just spectacular AND you can even see dolphins playing in the ship’s wake at time!

That towel rabbit looks like he is trying to seduce you. And the second guy? Umm… I’m speechless! I think I’d leave my cabin screaming if I walked in and saw that. Hahaha. But it looks like an incredible trip. I’d kill for a tropical vacation right now.

OK, you made me look at the towel animals in a whole new way. A slightly creepy, skeevy sort of way. LOL

I would kill for a tropical vacation right now as well. Heck, I’d kill for ANY type of vacation right now! :)

These are mesmerizing! ahh i know that bridge well haha, it’s amazing to watch the boats go through,,, though if you’re on the bridge at the time it gets annoying to wait haha. I love the sunsets, and the beach in Grand cayman looks BEAUTIFUL- reminds me of beaches in my previous home country of Jamaica- and of my fam’s favorite vacation spot in the Bahamas! This seems like a wonderful experience even if things didn’t go well after- I’ve never been on a cruise before- i must one of these days! and B you are GORGEOUS!!!! I love what I do see! :D. Sunburn and all (happens to us all in the summer haha- I get away with just a nose though because I am naturally tan/ resist sun well). I’d love to see more of you (when/if you ever wanna share with us! even if I don’t know your name- I went under just a nickname most of my blogging to date, and only mention my real first name in one place!) Anyway this is an essay of a comment- hope you have a lovely night!

I can imagine that waiting for the cruise ships to pass through could get annoying to those on the bridge. But from the perspective on the ship, its amazing ;)

I would love to visit Jamaica one day, it is SO cool that you lived there! I am just a tiny bit jealous.

The cruise really was a remarkable experience, and its definitely one I recommend. I plan to go one more for sure! And thanks for the kind words – you can actually see more of ME in part 2 :)

I’ll admit that I’ve never been particularly interested in tropical vacations, but these pictures may have changed my mind. It looks like a dream! I’ve always wanted to go on a cruise. My has gone on a few and actually the last one she did was to Alaska. It seemed rather fascinating. Anyway! Can’t wait for part two – your pictures are beyond gorgeous, by the way.

And also, you on the boat! You’re so pretty, even at a distance!

Alaska is my next dream cruise. As you might have guessed, I have a thing for nature photography (if you aren’t sure, I have even more “nature” photos on my facebook page!). I get all giddy just thinking about the pictures that i could get during an Alaska cruise.

This cruise was actually my first tropical vacation and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’d do it all over again in a second!

And thank you – that is really nice of you to say. :)

Wow looks incredible!! I have been on several cruises around the Medd and Canary Isles but not been to the Caribbean yet. Your photos give me more of a reason to save and get my bum off to the beautiful Islands .x.

I would love to go on a cruise to the Mediterranean or the Canary Islands. One day. The islands really are beautiful, and its a great way to see quite a few of them in a short period of time. I think Alaska is up next for me, though!
