This week’s Link Love is full of exciting and thought-provoking topics. Our nominated bloggers delved into a variety of subjects including the history of black face, the marketing of makeup to women of color, blog analytics, self-acceptance and more. The DUSK Zone – Golden Age: When it comes to being inspired by her follow bloggeristas, this was quite a week for Bella Q of The Citizen Rosebud! This is the first of three submissions that Bella made to Link Love. She told me I could choose which to include… so I included them all so you could see, as did I, why she was so inspired by each. I’ve been a fan of The DUSK Zone for some time, but she is a new discovery for Bella. She says “[A] treasure I’ve discovered this week is a beautiful blogger who writes the Dusk Zone. This post is her succinct manifesto on accepting her body in her 40′s. I LOVE!”
Everything Just So – Set in Style: The Jewelry of Van Cleef & Arpels: This was another of Bella’s faves this week. She says “this tantalizing review of Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry exhibition now showing at the Cooper-Hewitt National Museum makes me want to go see it for myself. Consider this post a guided tour with interesting tidbits and facts thrown in for good measure.” Sounds good to me!
Fashion RECON: Wednesday Webbies: Blog Analytics Dissected Series: Fabienne Jach of The House in the Clouds was so excited about this post that she actually submitted it twice! 🙂 “I’m totally digging Yvonne of Fashion Recon’s Wednesday Webbies series,” she says. “It’s really helpful to get a breakdown of analytics in bite-size pieces. She uses her own stats to walk us through the results. It’s pretty cool.” I agree completely, and look forward to future posts in this series as well!
The Girl Who Stole the Eiffel Tower – Raising Helena: How One Woman’s “Faux Pas” Inspired Me: Fashion is about celebrating one’s individuality and personal style. The truly fashionable own their style and don’t apologize for it. I picked Casee Marie’s post as my selection this week because she celebrates a woman who does exactly that – the always original, always fabulous and always fashionable… Helena Bonham Carter.
Hey Bella – Repeat after me… “I am Not Your JiggaBoo”: This selection by Courtney of Those Graces is a great pick that delves into a really interesting topic. “Ty talks about Beyonce’s decision to pose for L’Officiel in black face in honor of a Nigerian dancer,” says Courtney. “I think she’s brought up an interesting conversation on the history of black face.”
Miss Moss – mary katrantzou a/w 2011: Does anyone disagree that it can often be difficult to find a blogger who posts runway photos in an original way? Thankfully for us, Marissa of The Well-Appointed Catwalk did just that! She shares that “Miss Moss put together a brilliant, fun post on the Mary Katrantzou show, pairing her pieces with oriental ceramics on auction.”
style activist – Bidding Winter Farewell: I love this submission by Casee Marie of The Girl Who Stole the Eiffel Tower. She says she submitted this post because “the combination of Erika’s great writing, her killer outfit (and makeup, hair, etc. etc.) and the spectacular photography really wowed me. The way she styled a detailed dress with detailed stockings inspired my creative side, too.” I couldn’t have said it better myself!
Those Graces – Natural Ivory to True Ebony: Expanding Makeup Options for People of Color: This is the final selection picked by the lovely Bella Q of The Citizen Rosebud. Bella shares that this post was so good that reading it actually gave her the chills! “Courtney, a premier feminist-fashion blogger, touches upon the subject of marketing make-up to women of color. Oh this resonates so well with me! She plans to write some follow-ups to this post.” (Note: Courtney has already written at least one follow-up posts and it is just as good! Check it out here.)
Thrift Eye -The fat and skinny of it: or stop obsessing over Crystal Renn: Franca of Oranges and Apples submitted this thought-provoking post because “[it] challenges the negative reaction to Crystal Renn’s recent weight loss and is a great reminder that body acceptance applies to everyone, of all sizes!”
Beautifully Invisible – Thank You, Tom Ford: When I first noticed that Casee Marie had submitted this post as one of her choices for this week I wasn’t going to include it. Although I was deeply touched by her words, including it seems a bit self-serving, don’t you think? But when I noticed that Kristy Eléna of Full Time Fabulous also selected this post, I changed my mind. I don’t know if the post deserves their accolades, but I am thankful that my personal story – combined with genius of Tom Ford – seems to have resonated with them! Casee Marie said “I loved this post because B’s voice was strong, her words resonated with me and she also gave me insight into Mr. Ford’s past work that I hadn’t experienced at the time. It was an epic post that moved me, and it was just a flat-out great read.” She made me blush with her kind words, as did Kristy when she said “I love it. It’s perfection. I love knowing where your love for fashion came from. Such an inspiration!” Thanks ladies – I am thrilled that my post touched you both this past week!
