Great post. And I certainly think conspicuous consumption is not limited to fashion. Just think about tech blogs, for example - the obsession with getting the newest and greatest gadgets is is a perfect example.

And I do think it's important to think about the larger ramifications of all of our consumption decisions. Something I do personally and would encourage others to do is to eschew animal products. Fur, leather, and wool are all derived from cruel processes and result in the death of animals (no, leather is not a by-product, it's usually entirely different animals). It's great that people are starting to think about the environmental impact of their consumption choices but I hope people would think of the impact on other living beings. BTW if you want to check out some hott non-leather shoes, look at Olsen Haus. LOVE.

Really enjoyed reading your post! I love what you said about luxury items lasting much longer... maybe it really is better to invest in an item that will last for longer, despite the fact that it's more expensive.

First, let me say that by quoting from Buffy you have now solidified yourself as the Queen of Awesome Bloggers.

As a new blogger I think it can be difficult to find the right balance between what to share/what not to share and I think a blogger should never feel obligated to share things like their financial status. It's a bit sad that beauty and fashion bloggers feel that pressure the most. I don't often see things like that on blogs that focus on other products, such as technology or books, who may also get items for free to review.

Even though I've been only blogging for a short while I am already feeling a responsibility about what I post. Hearing about bloggers (or their followers) who have gone overboard trying to keep up with some sort of status quo have just made me more wary.

Thanks for the great post. You make me think so hard on Fridays!

Needless to say I agree with everything you have said. I specially liked your answer to the first questions. Something to think about for the critics huh? And that brings me to who are these Fashion Blogging Critics? How did they get their position? How did they apply for it! Hmmm ! I wonder. Anyhooo, have a lovely weekend!

I always love your intros on the Friend Friday posts! They are always so well written and thought out! I never knew that much money was invested in advertising. Then again, it doesn't necessarily surprise me either!

I definitely agree that its a bloggers choice (not an obligation) if she wants to disclose her financial status. I do believe, like you said, that she should disclose if she received something as a sample from a company (doing beauty stories as well, I disclose this all the time. Not only is it FTC rules but it keeps you honest!).

Great answers as always!
